แต่ไม่นานมานี้มีคนมาถามผมว่าถ้าต้องอธิบายคำศัพท์ต่างๆในทางพุทธศาสนา(ซึ่งมีเยอะมาก) ให้คนต่างชาติฟังเป็นภาษาอังกฤษล่ะ แค่นึกก็ยากแล้วครับ ผมเลยพยายามรวมรวมคำศัพท์ต่างๆมาให้ศึกษาเป็นความรู้กันครับ 

อริยสัจจ์ 4 : The Four Noble Truths 

1. ทุกข์ Dukkha: suffering; unsatisiactoriness 

2. ทุกขสมุทัย Dukkha-samudaya: the cause of suffering; origin of suffering 

3. ทุกขนิโรธ Dukkha-nirodha: the cessation of suffering; extinction of suffering

กิจในอริยสัจจ์ 4 functions concerning the Four Noble Truths

ไตรลักษณ์ the Three Characteristics 

1. อนิจจตา Aniccata: impermanence; transiency

วันวิสาขบูชา - Visakhapuja Day is one of the most important days in Buddhism because of three important incidents in the life of The Buddha, i.e. the birth, the enlightenment and the passing away, miraculously fall on the same month and date, the Vesak full moon day. So each year, Buddhists throughout the world gather together to perform the worship to recollect the wisdom, purity and compassion of the Buddha.

 

ทำบุญ  - 'TUM BOON': Making merit by going to temples for special observances, making merit, listening to Dhamma preaching, giving some donations and join in the other Buddhist activities.

รับศีล  - 'RUB SIL': Keeping the Five Precepts, including abstinence from alcoholic drinks and all kinds of immoral acts.

ตักบาตร - 'TUK BARD': Offering food to the monks and novices (in the alm bowl).

นุ่งขาวห่มขาว ถือศีล 8 - Practice of renuciation: Observe the Eight Precepts, practice of meditation and mental discipline, stay in the temple, wearing white robes, for a number of days.

เวียนเทียน - VIEN TIEN': Attending the Candle Light Procession around the Uposatha Hall, in the evening of the Vesak full moon day.
